Fat Hippo Newcastle

Fat Hippo never disappoints. The PB&J burger is an absolute revelation - peanut butter and bacon shouldn't work but it does. Fries are always crispy and the milkshakes are thick enough to stand a spoon in.

Been coming here for years and the quality never drops. The Crazy Horse with blue cheese is incredible. Staff are always lovely and the atmosphere is great for a casual dinner.

Only knock is it can be hard to get a table on weekends without booking.

It's fine. The burgers are good but I don't think they're worth the hype or the price tag. I've had better in other cities for less money. That said, the hippo skin fries are genuinely excellent.

Everything about this place slaps. The Dead Hippo burger is genuinely one of the best things I've ever eaten. Mac and cheese bites as a side? Yes please. Will keep coming back until they physically remove me from the premises.

Really solid burger joint. Tried the Christmas special last time and it was fantastic. The portions are generous and the cocktail menu is surprisingly good too.

Fat Hippo has earned its reputation. Every burger I've tried has been consistently excellent. The brioche buns are perfectly toasted, the patties are juicy, and the toppings are creative without being gimmicky.

The Newcastle location has a great vibe too - not too loud, good music, friendly service.

The food is genuinely excellent - some of the best burgers in the North East. My only complaint is the seating can feel a bit tight, especially downstairs. But for the quality of what you're eating, it's a minor gripe.

As someone who takes their burgers seriously, Fat Hippo delivers. The smash technique gives a perfect crust, the cheese is always properly melted, and they don't skimp on the toppings. The truffle mayo is addictive.
